Joyce I. Pinney, 85, of Rutland, died January 31, 2013, in The Pines at Rutland. She was born October 10, 1927, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of James Lucius and Ethel Leona (Nutting) Taylor.

Joyce graduated from Meldon School.

On September 14, 1947, she was married to Robert P. Pinney Sr. He predeceased her on April 27, 2002.

Before Joyce was married, she worked at New England Telephone Co. and later as a bookkeeper for many years with her husband at Pinney Electric Co.

She enjoyed volunteering at Rutland area schools and with the 4-H Club, and was a member of the Rutland Home Dem.

An avid reader, gardener and homemaker, she also loved dancing, attending her children's sporting events and all family gatherings.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert P. Pinney Jr. of Rutland; three daughters, Cheryl Muscatello of Mendon, Linda Chicoine of Milton and Michele Weeks of Wallingford; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Tossing Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark E. Heiner, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
