Laura M. Rappa, 86, died July 3, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Rutland, Sept. 12, 1926, daughter of Michael and Dolores (Delleveneri) Picucci.

Laura attended St. Peter's School and was a 1944 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She was a 1947 graduate of Rutland Hospital School of Nursing and she received her Bachelor Degree of Nursing from Cornell University in New York City. She resided in Staten Island, NY, for over 30 years where she met her husband and started her family.

Laura loved many things, however her career in nursing and caring for her grandchild were her greatest joys in life. Laura took much pride in her 40 years serving as a nurse but felt her greatest accomplishment was her grandchildren.

During her 40-year career serving as a nurse, in 1981 she toured the Soviet Union and helped assist in operating on the Shah of Iran. She finished her long nursing career, in which she took much pride, as an operating room nurse supervisor at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Staten Island, NY.

She was a former member of St. Peter's Church.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Danielle Intagliato of Pittsford, her husband Ben Lemieux, and Laura Griffin and Victor Valdez of Albany, NY, three great-grandchildren, Jordan Lemieux, Isabella Valdez and Sofia Valdez. Also, her beloved niece Dolores Poalino.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Rappa, in 1984; by a daughter, Constance "Connie" Rappa; a brother, Robert Picucci; four sisters, Evelyn Taylor, Amelia Menduni, Olga Picucci and Edith Bird.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, in St. Peter's Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount St. Joseph Academy Development Fund, Convent Ave., Rutland, Vt. 05701.
