NAPLES, Fla. - Laurence E. Comfort, 74, died May 25, 2012, at his home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1937, the son of Cyrus and Ethel Comfort.
He graduated from Cortland (N.Y.) High School.
On June 7, 1958, Mr. Comfort married Sheila Teahan Harter.
He worked as a lineman for Niagara Mohawk for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was also a salesman for Browns Trailers Sales.
In Homer, N.Y., he was a life member of the Moose Club, the Elks Club, the Fire Department, and served as a deacon at the Congregational Church.
Mr. Comfort enjoyed playing softball, bowling, camping, and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include three children, Rebecca Ruby of Naples, Scott Comfort of Cortland, N.Y., and Vicki Shaddock of Fair Haven, Vt.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul, Jack, both of Largo, and Ben Comfort of California.
He was predeceased by four siblings, Clifford and Roger Comfort, Della and Irene; a granddaughter; and in 2011, by his wife.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 North Main St., Homer, with the Rev. Barbara Rhudy officiating, and followed by a celebration of his life at Homer Elks Lodge, 82 Cortland St.
Burial in Virgil Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at the funeral home,.
