GRAFTON - Margaret Louise (Lake) Gates, 85, died April 2, 2013, at her home after a long illness.

She was born June 21, 1927, in Grafton, the daughter of Henry and Maude Lake.

She married Charles Morton Gates, of Claremont, N.H., on Nov. 2, 1957. They had been married for 55 years.

She enjoyed square dancing, tag sales, making pickles and hand-braiding wool rugs. Many of the rugs can be seen in homes throughout Grafton, at the Grafton Inn, and in homes throughout the United States. She was also known for her baking, especially breads and pies.

She was involved with many activities in Grafton, including the Grafton Parent Teacher Group and the Grafton School Board.

She spent many winters in Bradenton, Fla.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie; a daughter Lisa of Orlando, Fla.; a son Christopher of North Granby, Conn.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son David on July 4, 2011; and four siblings, Mary, Edward, Norman, and Henry.

A church service will be held June 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Grafton Congregational Church. Interment and graveside services will follow in the Houghtonville Cemetery in Grafton.
