Marie C. Salerni, 87, of Rutland, died February 9, 2013, at her home.

Marie, a dedicated family woman, is best remembered for spending countless patient hours with her grandchildren. What she taught them cannot be measured and it continues to grow. A self-educated naturalist, she took great delight in the nature of the smallest and most delicate. She loved the flowers and birds, but it was the humming birds, the chickadees and the fragile wild flowers she found on the forest floor that brought her the most joy. Whether it was stopping on the roadside to pick berries or having the occasional cigarette with a dear friend, she never missed the value of the simple moments. Wendy, she loved you like a sister. You cannot know the comfort your selfless friendship provided her.

Marie's final passage was eased by many gentle souls. To Lois and Cathy, the many tasks you performed at all hours day and night gave her great comfort. To Chad and Shirley, thanks for being there. Rev. Dodson, your prayers had a remarkable effect on her. Dr. McCormick, the nurses and aides of hospice, thank you, all.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
