WOODFORD - Maureen Ann Higgins, 68, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following a brief illness.

She was born March 4, 1944, in North Adams, Mass., the daughter of Marvin and Yvonne (Brooks) Simon.
She received her education in North Adams, and graduated from St. Joseph's College in Bennington.
She married Ronald Higgins on Sept. 3, 1966, in North Adams. Mr. Higgins survives.
She had been a homemaker for many years, but had been employed in earlier years at the Sears stores in Boston, Mass., and Hartford, Conn. She later worked for 12 years at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, in the bookkeeping department and the mailroom.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington.
She was a member of the Mount Greylock Chapter Sweet Adeline's, a member of the Board of Civil Authority in Woodford, and a Justice of the Peace.
She enjoyed singing and reading mystery novels.
Survivors besides her husband; two children, Jennifer Sandquist of Bennington, and Timothy Higgins of Woodford; a granddaughter; a brother, Phillip Simon of Bennington; a foster sister, Mary Chalifoux of Falmouth, Mass.; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, David Paul Simon, and a foster brother, Warren McClendon.
A prayer service will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
