WEST RUTLAND - Nicola James "Nick" Basile, 69, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Salvatore and Jen (Leone) Basile.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967, serving a tour in Vietnam that earned him a Purple Heart.
Mr. Basile married Nancy (Lemire) Blake Jan. 2, 1995.
He was employed for many years doing security work in New York and Vermont.
He was a member of West Rutland American Legion Post #87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #648 and Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.
Mr. Basile enjoyed cooking, riding his motorcycle and sports cars.
Survivors include his wife, of West Rutland; a daughter, Toni Farace, and a son, Sal Basile, both of Staten Island, New York; a brother, Dennis Basile, of Texas; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two stepsons Kenny Blake in 1980 and Robert Blake Jr. in 2008.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at St. Bridget's Church in West Rutland.
Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rutland. A reception will follow.
