SHAFTSBURY - Paul H. Cross, 95, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Shaftsbury Nov. 18, 1917, the son of Willie and Mae Arbella (Harrington) Cross, and received his education locally.

He married Phyllis Hoisington Dec. 31, 1940, in Shaftsbury. Mrs. Cross died in 2004.

Mr. Cross was a cabinetmaker by trade and known for his wood carvings.

He was a member of Red Mountain Lodge #63 F&AM in Arlington, Southern Vermont Arts Center, Chaffee Art Gallery in Rutland, Green Mountain Wood Carvers, National Wood Carvers Association and National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed playing the fiddle in the Kelly Stand Symphony in Sunderland.

Survivors include his adopted daughter, Penny Burdick of Shaftsbury; two grandsons; his caregiver, Bea Brown of Shaftsbury; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Shaftsbury.
