Phyllis Merritt, 91, of Rutland, died Thursday evening, June 20, 2013, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 25, 1922, in Rutland, the daughter of Jerome and Ethel (Blossom) Rousseau.
She graduated from Rutland High School in 1939. Phyllis and her husband owned and operated Merritt Paints in Rutland for many years.
Mrs. Merritt was a member of the American Legion #31 of which she served as past president and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit #648 as well as a member of The Colonial Dames.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her family, taking rides, as well as antiques and decorating.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Ellison and her husband Barry and a son, Edward Merritt and his wife Paula Terenzini, all of Rutland, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Stanley R. Merritt on June 2, 1990, a sister. Marjorie Russell on April 21, 1992, and a brother, Alfred Rousseau.
There will be no calling hours
Memorial services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the Grace Congregational Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
