Sheila Mary Carroll, 91, of Rutland, died peacefully at her home Feb. 21, 2018.
She was born in Rutland, July 16, 1926, daughter of Henry J. and Nora (Fitzgerald) McLaughlin.
Sheila was a 1944 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and continued her education in nurses' training becoming a Registered Nurse in 1948.
She was a dedicated and skilled nurse for 40 years, working in the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Room of the Rutland Hospital.
She was a lifelong parishioner of Christ the King Church and loved to play golf with her husband, "Bats," at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club.
Surviving are three sons Brian F. Carroll and wife Anne, of West Glover, VT, Stephen M. Carroll, of Rutland, Joseph P. Carroll, of Burlington; three brothers James McLaughlin, of Windsor Locks, CT, Gerald McLaughlin, of East Hartford, CT, Maurice McLaughlin, of Castleton, Claire Belmore and Helen Anderson, both of Pittsfield, MA; two grandchildren Kathleen, of Mammoth Lakes, CA, and Chris, of Manchester, CT.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. "Bats" Carroll, on Feb. 8, 2015; a brother, Henry McLaughlin Jr.; two sisters Kathleen Commins and Anne Miller.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, in Christ the King Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-6 p.m. in the Clifford Funeral Home.
