BROWNINGTON CENTER - Thelma Jean LaCoss, 87, died Aug. 24, 2013, in Newport.

She was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Forestdale, the daughter of Dewey and Agnes (Dimick) LaRock.
She graduated from Brandon High School and from nursing schools in Vermont and Brooklyn, N.Y.
On June 9, 1951, she married Carlton B. LaCoss, who died in 2000.
Mrs. LaCoss was a cadet nurse in the Army during the Korean Era.
She was an RN at New Britain Memorial Hospital and Bristol Hospital, both in Connecticut, and more recently worked at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
She was a member of the Brownington Ladies Group, Brownington Center Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. LaCoss was a past member of the NEK Pulling Association and enjoyed horses, ponies and ox pulling, as well as knitting and making mittens and hats for local children. She was an avid reader and fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas LaCoss of Stowe and Tim LaCoss of Brownington; a granddaughter; a brother, Roger LaRock of Pittsford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by two brothers, Arnold and Donald LaRock.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at New Hope Bible Church in Brownington Center, with Pastor George Lawson officiating.
