CHESTER - John F. Capen, 59, died June 17, 2012, at home, following an illness.

He was born March 30, 1953, in Manchester, the son of Howard and Ruby (Beers) Capen.
He was educated in Manchester, as well as Gilsum and Stoddard, N.H., schools, and attended Vermont Adult Learning classes in Springfield.
For the last 18 years, Mr. Capen supervised the driveway at 157 Pleasant St. in Chester, watching over his grandnephews and other neighborhood children, helping lost motorists, assisting pedestrians over icy sidewalks and acting as a salesperson for outdoor furniture.
Survivors include six siblings, Howard of Bradford, Myron of South Londonderry, Oscar of Danby, Bert, Lois Goddard, both of Chester, and Ruby Capen of North Springfield; three generations of nieces and nephews, many cousins and aunts.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Julius Capen and Ahial Crandall.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Andover Community Church and followed by burial in Pleasantview Cemetery in Chester and a reception at the church.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire or the Chester Family Center.
