Phyllis A. Abatiell (Philly), 93, of Rutland passed away on her husband's birthday February 21, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was a pillar of strength to her entire family.

She was born in Rutland January 13, 1921, the daughter of Pasquale and Assunta (Cantone) Gallo.

Phyllis was a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph Academy class of 1939.

On September 5, 1943 she was married at St. Peter's Church to Peter R. Abatiell who died December 29, 1992.

Mrs. Abatiell was a volunteer at Rutland Regional Medical Center's Gift Shop for 40 years. and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Anita Garabaldi Lodge.

She was also a member of the RRMC Auxiliary and the Hexagon Club.

She was a big fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox teams.

Surviving are two sons, Peter R. Abatiell, Jr., and his wife Julie of Rutland, R. Michael Abatiell and his wife Laurie of Rutland; five daughters, Diane Sabataso and her husband Alfred of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susan A. Duval of Rutland, Carol Gauthier and her husband William of Citrus Springs, FL, Patricia Bove and her husband John of Cape Cod, MA and Joy Barrett and her husband Jeff of Rutland Town; a sister Violet DeGregorio of New Jersey, 16 grandchildren, Michelle Sabataso Fullone, Brian Sabataso, Mary Sabataso Matson, Peter Abatiell, III, Dr. Andrew Abatiell, Stephen Abatiell, Jill Duval Keller, Joseph Duval, Kevin Gauthier, Joseph Young, Lori Young, Jonathan Bove, Briana Bove Ore, Matthew Abatiell, Aden Parker and Megan Barrett, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Charles Gallo and Anthony Gallo, by two sisters, Josephine Pillon and Emily D'Angelo, and by her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Emily Cioffi.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Baker, Pastor. A reception will follow.

Visiting hours will be held Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
