POWNAL - Bill Vien, 80, of Pownal died Friday, July 11, 2014, at his residence.

Born Aug. 4, 1933, in Bennington, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Goodwin) Vien. He received his education in Pownal and Bennington Schools.

Mr. Vien was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953.

He married the former Barbara Cummings on July 2, 1955, in Bennington. In earlier years, he owned and operated a construction business in the area. He enjoyed horses and trained thoroughbreds for many years.

He was a life member of both the VFW Post 1332 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 90 in Pownal. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Vien of Pownal; three daughters, Susan Daugherty, Jean Cottrell and Bonnie Kalinowski, all of Pownal; eight grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Loyzelle of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters and a brother, Jane Beauregard, Ruth Joly and George Vien.

At Mr. Vien's request there will be no calling hours nor funeral services.
