NORTH BENNINGTON - Edward W. Devlin, 66, of North Bennington died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington on Nov. 18, 1947, the son of the late Patrick and Doris (McDermott) Devlin. He received his education in Bennington.
Mr. Devlin served in the U.S. Army.
He married the former Catherine Church on Nov. 10, 1973 in Pittstown, N.Y. His wife died Dec. 27, 2007.
For 35 years he was employed at Vermont Container in Bennington, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 13 and was a former member of the Hoosick Falls Eagles Club.
Survivors include his children, Cindy Tifft of North Bennington and Terry Putnam of Cambridge, N.Y.; his stepchildren Robert Hurley of Pownal, Judy Alpers of Texas, Edward Hurley and Patrick Hurley both of Hanover, Pa.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Devlin of Woodford, Dennis Devlin of Shaftsbury; and a sister, Bonnie Dumas of West Rutland.
He was predeceased by his stepdaughter Rebecca Hurley.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. today, July 31, 2014.
The funeral will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1.
The burial will take place in the family lot at the Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland.
