MANCHESTER CENTER - Phillip G. Squires, 79, a resident of Cemetery Avenue in Manchester Center, passed away July 29, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York, surrounded by his family.

Phil was born in Manchester, Vermont, on August 27, 1934, the son of Frank and Grace (Phillips) Squires. He received his early education in Dorset Schools and was a graduate of Burr and Burton Seminary.

Phil was the Supervisor of Transportation, Buildings and Grounds for Manchester Elementary and Middle School for many years. He was involved with any and every sport activity at Burr and Burton and ran the clock for all home games.

Phil loved to golf and was an avid Dodgers baseball fan and Cleveland Browns and Notre Dame football fan. He was a devoted family man and doted on his dog, Fluffy.

Phil is survived by his wife Lois (Gleason) Squires of Manchester Center; his children ,Marc Squires and his wife Carol of Pawlet, Vermont, Aaron Squires of Philadelphia, Holly Squires and her husband Harold Glass of Philadelphia, and Sara Squires of Manchester Center; brother Douglas Squires and his wife Luci of North Carolina; and grandson Dylan Beavin and his wife Jessica of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; any nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Phil will be held Saturday morning August 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Manchester.

Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Friday evening at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service 34 Park Place Manchester Center, from 5-7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

If friends desire, memorial gifts in Phil's memory may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter in honor of Fluffy, or to an athletic scholarship fund to be set up in Phil's name, c/o Brewster & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
