Albert G. Petrin (1926 - 2014)

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Albert G. Petrin, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, after a short illness at Our House Outback in Rutland.

He was born on April 23, 1926, at home in Biddeford, Maine, the son of Henri and Blanche (Pombriant) Petrin.

Albert grew up in Biddeford, graduating from Biddeford High School where he played football and was quite the ladies' man as his dance card was always full. Following high school, on April 10, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Albert served the country in the Seabees as an Electrician's Mate in the Pacific Arena.

Upon discharge, he returned to Biddeford where he married his wife, Yolande Petit. Yolande and Albert moved to Boston, where he earned a Bachelor of Technology diploma from Wentworth Institute of Technology courtesy of the GI Bill. In Boston, he became an avid Red Sox fan and lived to see them win not one but three World Series titles.

After a short stay back in Maine, Albert moved to Connecticut where he worked at Northeast Utilities as an electrical engineer for 33 years, primarily designing substations. Many of those substations are still providing safe and reliable power to many homes and businesses.

It was in Connecticut where he developed a passion for skiing and golf. In the early days at Springfield Ski Club, he would lace up the children's and his wife's ski boots before he could hit the slopes. The ski day would usually end with an après-ski party with what became known as "The Garage Gang".

After the children had moved out, Yolande and Albert moved to Avon, Conn., where they were very active members of the Avon Country Club. There he honed his golf skills for the next move to Brewster, Mass., where he enjoyed golfing as a member at the Captains Club.

Albert and Yolande traveled extensively both in the USA and Europe for skiing in the winter months and sightseeing all the wonders in the warmer months. Boxes full of passports, visas, brochures and pictures are a testament to those memorable times.

When his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, they moved to Rutland, Vt., where their daughter, Margot Donovan, resides. Albert was able to care for Yolande while they lived at The Maples, where he did a great job and was happy to do it.

Later, when Yolande went to live at Our House Outback, Albert moved in with Margot and her husband, Barry, where he enjoyed sitting in his brown recliner chair reading, watching old movies and the Red Sox.

He is survived by a son Marc and his wife Yvonne of Chester, Conn., and their children, Danielle and Eric; a daughter Lise Fuller of Glens Falls, N.Y., and her children Adrienne and Cullen; another daughter Margot Donovan and her husband Barry of Rutland, Vt., and their children, Alyssa and Amanda; as well as several great-grandchildren and his brother, Robert Petrin of Biddeford, Maine.

He was predeceased by his wife Yolande, sister-in-law Jeannine Petit and son-in-law Robert Fuller.

The family would like to thank the staff at Our House Outback for their wonderful care, especially his hospice care.
