WHITE CREEK, N.Y. - Lorraine J. Cross, 85, wife of Merton J. Cross Sr., a resident of White Creek, N.Y. died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in New Bedford, Mass., Aug. 4, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Idella (Boulet) Johnson. They moved to Bennington when she was a month old.
She received her education at Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Bennington High School, class of 1945.
Mr. and Mrs. Cross married Sept. 14, 1947, at the Sacred Heart Rectory. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic in North Bennington.
Mrs. Cross was employed for many years in the business office at the then Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington. She worked for a while at New England Tel and Tel. At the time of her retirement, she was caring for children, mostly grandchildren
Mrs. Cross was a member of St. Anne's Society, the Bennington Moose Club and the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary.
Survivors in addition to her husband include six daughters: Anita Greene of Shaftsbury, Christine Morrissey of Shaftsbury, Linda Grogan of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Priscilla Hanselman and Jean Bohmer of Hoosick Falls, and Margaret Groben of White Creek; four sons: Merton Cross Jr. of White Creek, Thomas Cross of Oak Harbour, Wash., Keith Cross of Pownal, Vt., and Wayne Cross of Dallas, Ga.; 29 grandchildren; 40-plus great grandchildren; a sister Doris Alderman of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Johnson; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, from Mahar and Son Funeral Home with a prayer and then at 10 a.m. from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, when the family will be in attendance.
The burial will take place in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery
