BENNINGTON - Douglas Paul Brunina, 91, a resident of Jefferson Heights, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014.

The son of Francis and Mabel (Sweet) Brunina, Mr. Brunina was born June 6, 1923, in Bennington and grew up on County Street. He was a 1941 graduate of Bennington High School and was employed in earlier years at EZ Mills in Bennington.

In 1951, he accepted a position at Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass., where he worked until he became disabled in 1969. He enjoyed playing his clarinet and saxophone in a jazz band and soon after, in 1950, he met and married Theresa "Terry" Rappazzo in Bennington in a marriage that would last for 64 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Brunina were soon parents and started a life-long passion of camping, which they enjoyed until his death. They would travel throughout the country visiting several parks.

Mr. Brunina would be a technical mentor to his friends and family, lending his expertise on anything mechanical, automotive or electrical.

He is survived by his wife, Terry, of Bennington; a daughter Margaret "Peg" Murtaugh of Schodak, N.Y.; a son Kenneth Brunina of Taylors, S.C., and a son Richard Brunina of Clifton, Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister and brother, Velma Harris and Francis Brunina.

The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, with a prayer, and at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
