AVON, Colo. - Christopher William Jenkins, 54, died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep, of heart disease on January 20, 2011, at his home in Avon, Colo. Chris was born November 4, 1956, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Nancy P. Jenkins and G. William "Bill" Jenkins Jr.

He graduated from Rutland High School in 1974, attended Castleton State College and served an apprenticeship with Schwaiger Brothers (Jake and Sepp) as a framing contractor.

Chris worked for Pico Ski Resort as a ski instructor and snowmaker and as a framing contractor for Schwaiger Brothers from 1975 through 1991. In 1992, he moved to Colorado where he started JBCBD Inc., a building contracting firm. He operated his business in Eagle County until the time of his death.

Chris was an animal lover and shared his life with many special dogs throughout his life. He enjoyed skiing, softball, football and hunting.

He is survived by his partner, Wendy Gallagher Mullaney, his sister, Betsey Kiehl and her husband Jeffrey "Woody" Kiehl and their daughter Lindsey, Vail, Colo.; his sister, Deb Fennell and her husband Larry Fennell and their daughter Jessica, Jeffersonville, Vt.; and his parents, Nancy P. Jenkins and G. William Jenkins Jr. of Rutland, Vt., and his ex-wife, Ruth Stanley.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Duane F. and Carolyn Beech Phelps, and his paternal grandparents, George W. and Idell Donahue Jenkins Sr.

A memorial service was held in Vail, Colo., on Tuesday, January 25.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Congregational Church in Rutland. A reception will follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rutland County Humane Society, Pittsford, VT; North Country Animal League, Morrisville, VT; or the Epilepsy Foundation of Vermont.
