DORSET - Judith McCormick Taylor, 72, a resident of Hollow Road in Dorset, died September 29, 2012, after suffering from a stroke at her summer home in West Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Judith was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 19, 1939, the daughter of John and Bertha (Brooks) McCormick. She graduated from Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vermont, and Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire. For many years, she was a remedial reading tutor in local Vermont schools. She was also a 4-H leader, a founding trustee at Hildene, the Robert Todd Lincoln House in Manchester, and one of the first woman trustees of Burr and Burton Academy. She was a major contributor for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, High Field Hall, Falmouth Historical Society, The Nature Conservancy, Riley Rink at Hunter Park, Burr and Burton Academy and Hildene in Manchester and many other charitable organizations. She was a member of the Ekwanok Country Club, the Dorset Field Club and the Chilton Club. Judy had an affectionate sense of humor and was known for her storytelling and voracious reading habits. She loved people, entertaining and Basset Hounds.

Judith leaves her husband, Frederic F. Taylor of Dorset; her son, Charles M. Taylor and his wife Alison of Woodstock; her daughter, Suzanne "Topsy" King and her husband Andrew of Manchester; her brother, T.D. McCormick and his wife Judi of Manchester; and sister, Roxanne Leighton and husband Charles of Middletown, Rhode Island; and five grandchildren, whom she adored.

A celebration of the life of Judith McCormick Taylor will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester. Rev. Gordon McClellan will officiate. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Judy's memory may be made to one of Judy's favorite organizations.
