Roland Arthur Chabot, 89, of Rutland, died quietly Wednesday morning, February 13, 2013, at his residence, following a long illness.

He was born on March 2, 1923, in Fall River, Mass., the son of Roland and Rose Alma (Beaulieu) Chabot. He attended schools in Fall River, Mass., where he grew up.

Mr. Chabot joined the C.C. Camp in 1941 located in Danby, Vt. He met his wife, Shirley Marie Roucoulet, in Rutland and they were married in 1942.

Mr. Chabot enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during WWII as an orderly in McCloskey General Hospital in Temple, Texas, prior to being honorably discharged in 1946 and relocating to Rutland.

He was employed by the Endicott Johnson Shoe Co. for 32 years, retiring as the manager of the Rutland Store in 1978. He also worked in Florida for the Tupperware Corp. and during his retirement, he was employed by the Fucci Co. as the maintenance superintendent of the Parker House.

Mr. Chabot was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he served as an usher for many years, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1122 and the American Legion Post #31.

He was active in the foster grandparent program as a foster grandfather at the Rutland Intermediate School in Mrs. Mee's third grade classroom for 10 years.

Mr. Chabot was a Little League baseball coach for six years in the 1960s.

Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Noble, Linda Downs, both of Rutland, and Donna Bauer and her husband William of Center Rutland; two sons, Ronald Chabot and his partner Cindy, and Dennis Chabot and his wife Susan of Rutland; two sisters, Doris Snyder of Taunton, Mass., and Jeanette McGrath of Westport, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Marie Roucoulet Chabot, on March 22, 1989; also by two stillborn sons, Peter and Dwayne; a granddaughter, Stephanie Noble; a great-granddaughter, Breanna Pena; son-in-law Steve Noble; a brother, Donald "Bobby" Chabot, and a sister, Bella Boudria.

Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be at a later date in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
