On March 8, 2013, Jo Ann Dodge Perkins of Rutland died at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, following a long illness.

Jo Ann was born March 11, 1932, the daughter of Pauline Gallup Dodge and Warren "Dick" Dodge. She attended elementary school in Burlington and later in Jeffersonville while her father served in WWII. Following the war, Jo Ann attended high school in Johnson and graduated salutatorian in 1950. She then went on to attend Becker Junior College.

On June 22, 1952, Jo Ann married Edward C. Perkins. They were married in Johnson. Jo Ann and Ed were married for 60 years. In the early years, they moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Jo Ann returned to Vermont and lived in Johnson while her husband was in Korea. They went on to live in Morrisville, Brattleboro and Rutland.

Jo Ann enjoyed a lifelong passion for music. She had an excellent voice and sang publicly on many occasions in her younger years. She was an active choir member at Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro.

Jo Ann was a skilled seamstress and had advanced knitting skills and also made clothes for her children, grandchildren and wedding gowns for her relatives. She was an active member of the Maple Leaf Quilters in Rutland.

When her children were in elementary school, Jo Ann was active in the PTA and served as a room mother. For 12 years, Jo Ann worked as the receptionist in the Brattleboro Union Junior High School. Jo Ann actively supported her children's activities whether acting, musicals or sports.

She is survived by her husband, Edward; three children, Martha Jo Perkins of Rutland, David D. Perkins of Centreville, Virginia, and Amy Beth Perkins Moore of Yorktown, Virginia; four grandchildren, Pauline Perkins of Gilroy, California, James Perkins of Seattle, Washington, Meghan Moore, Sean Moore and her granddog, Hoku, of Yorktown, Virginia. There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 11, 2013, at the Grace Congregational Church in Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center, 160 Allen St., Rutland, VT 05701; or Regional Ambulance Service, 275 Stratton Road, Rutland, VT 05701.
