Arthur Bates Obituary

BATES, Arthur Eugene Arthur Eugene Bates passed away peacefully in Fair Oaks, California, on September 4, 2014, at age 91. Born and raised in Glendale, California, Art met his wife Marjorie while both were attending Glendale Junior College and married in 1943. Art served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1948 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in the LA and SF Bay Area for Westinghouse Electric, CGR and finally as president of California X-Ray. Art was a loving, patient, and kind husband and father to his five children and enjoyed family camping, boating and RV trips across the country to visit lifelong friends. He was an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts and the Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Concord, CA, member of St. Steven's Lutheran Church in Granada Hills, CA, and more recently Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay, CA. Art was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bates and is survived by his wife Marjorie of Fair Oaks, his daughters Judy (Joe) Kula of Fair Oaks, Jo Ann (Andy) Anderson of Woodland, sons Richard (Joanne) of Roseville, Ronald of Pine Mountain Club, Thomas (Debbie) of Pine Mountain Club, grandchildren Sherry (Joshua) Bowen, Kimberley, Jonathan, Ashley, Adam (Stephanie) and Kressie, and great-grandchildren Jeffrey and Curtis Shropshire, and Ava Lyn Bowen. The Family sends a special thank you to Sunrise Senior Living of Fair Oaks for their outstanding care and compassion during Art's last four years. A memorial service will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 5901 San Juan Ave., Citrus Heights, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.
