ANDERSON, Maria
'Christine'
A long-time Sacramento-area antiques dealer who turned customers into friends with her infectious enthusiasm, generosity and charming smile, Christine died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, following a stroke. She was 88 years old. Chris, aka Christa and Christine, was born in Poland in April 1924. She fled to Germany during World War II, where she was drafted into working for the German Army as a switchboard operator with duties that included digging trenches. She later worked for the American Red Cross and American Special Services as a hostess. She met and married U.S. Air Force Sergeant Gary Anderson, her husband of 63 years in Munich, Germany, where their first child was born. In 1952, they moved to California, where their second and third child were born. For five years in the 1960s, the family was stationed in a small French village. In the early 1970s, Chris was introduced to the Lost Flea Market in San Jose, where she became hooked on antiques. A few years later, she moved to Sacramento to open a large import antiques business, Gold River Antiques. For some 30 years, she sold antiques at stores in Fair Oaks and Gold River. Chris had never attended college and was very proud of her business skills and success. She loved meeting new people, many of whom became fast friends.
She is survived by her husband, three children and many other relatives in Europe and the United States.
