Richard Broadbent Obituary

Died with his family by his side on May 2, 2013 at the age of 75. He had battled ALS for the last four years. Richard was born in Burlington, NJ on June 19, 1937. From 1957 to 1990, Richard served in the US Air Force and retired after 32 years. His duties included traveling around the world along with serving in the Vietnam War; he received various medals during his honorable service. He also worked for AT&T and ultimately retired to pursue his hobby of running, spending time with family, traveling and camping. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. After being diagnosed with ALS and being confined to a wheelchair, he continued to enjoy reading and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Marilou; five children Kevin and wife Kris, Kurt, Kent and wife Jamie, Krisann, Kraig and wife Tori; and five grandchildren Katie, Kirby, Kolby, Kennady and Kortlyn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl and a sister, Loretta. A memorial service will be held on May 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. A private committal service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Richard may be made to "The ALS Association, Greater Sacramento Chapter", 2717 Cottage Way Suite 17, Sacramento, CA 95825.
