Barbara Anne Zupo (McDermed) October 13,1940 to April 10,2013 West Sacramento, CA on April 10,2013 Barbara finished her race called "life". She had lots of adventures, many friends, a love for exploring the world. She was an avid quilter and teacher; even after retirement she continued to substitute teach in neighboring communities. She passed away after her brave, but brief battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. She was able to see the outpouring of love from all aspects of her life. Friends visited from different times in her life, from college days to more recent colleagues to her current neighbors. Her husband, Nickolaus Zupo III, preceded her in 2001. They will now be reunited, as everyone agreed he was taken away too soon from this world. She is survived by her son Robert Zupo, daughter in-law Jennifer Zupo of Texas, by her daughter Rebecca Zupo Bolton, son in-law Cameron Bolton of London, three granddaughters and a grandson, her sister Jane Kolb from Calistoga, and her sister/brother in-laws, John and Sandy Callison, from Napa Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to : UC Davis Health System Health Science Development 4900 Broadway Suite# 1150 Sacramento, CA 95820 Checks payable to: UC Regents Friends of Mt. We got together with Barbara and all of our Returned Peace Corps Volunteer friends on a regular basis. We all shared our Peace Corps stories and enjoyed Barbara's stories of her days as a PCV in Peru. We will miss her at our gatherings.

I got to know Barbara while she worked at East Cottonwood School. Through conversations we discovered that she had been friends with my husband's Uncle Pat and Aunt Lorraine Overton for many years. I would like to express my sincere sympathy to Barbara's children and tell them that she will be missed. I really appreciate all the time and effort she made on behalf of kids and how supportive she was to me as a teacher. I enjoyed knowing Barbara and working with her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. I hope many happy memories will bring comfort in the months and years ahead.

I remember Mr. and Mrs. Zupo from my softball days in Victorville. Such sweet people! Mrs. Zupo made me a small quilt to hang on my wall to hold all of my softball pins. She was always so thoughtful and generous. I'm so sorry to hear of this. Praying for you and your family.

I can't exactly say that I enjoyed the process of learning Spanish, or how much I may have retained, however I enjoyed hearing about her adventures in Peru with the Peace Corp and her humorous disposition. Though spotty, I was grateful a few weeks ago for her on my trip to Mexico to build houses with highschoolers. May God grant her pardon and Peace. Vaya con Dios. (Go with God).

Though my acquaintance with Barbara was brief, her impact on my life was tremendous. Her energy and absolute zest for life were amazing. Her quilting genius was always animated and sometimes humorous. Besides involving me with some classes for the Mt. Quail Quilters, she helped me with teaching techniques for English language learners. I will miss chance-meeting with her Redding and then going to 2-3 hour spontaneous lunches. We will all miss her. Know that your Mom was an extraordinary women and well-loved.
