BERTOLUCCI, Alvo John

Born in Sacramento on August 23, 1924, Al was raised and lived most of his life in Roseville, CA.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Silvio and Rachele Bertolucci, brothers Robert and Vic and sister Claire Pineschi. His loving wife of 68 years, Winifred (Korff) passed away in March of 2011.
Al was a devoted father to his daughters, Susan Brennan (Dan) and Gayle Bertolucci (Chris). The beloved grandfather of Tom Brennan (Whitney), Kim Zurinsky, (Kris), Meghan Neluna (Joe) and born on Al's 60th birthday, Joseph Brennan (Bethany); and great-grandfather to Devin, Chloe, Sydney Grace, Reese and Maxwell. He is survived by his sister, Dora Curtis (Myron).
After attending Roseville High School, Al worked for the Pacific Fruit Express and Southern Pacific Company until being inducted into the United States Navy
in 1943. While on leave, he married Winnie on July 1, 1943.
Al was immediately assigned to the USS Antares for duty in the Pacific. Al served on the Antares for 37 consecutive months and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Al returned home to Winnie in Roseville and his position at the Pacific Fruit Express. He held a number of positions for the company in Roseville, Southern California, Tucson, AZ and Nampa, ID.
On March 1, 1964, Al was promoted to Superintendent of the Roseville operation, the largest of the PFE system. He continued with PFE until his retirement in 1981.
Al loved his community and served as President of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce (1972) and as Director of the Placer County Fair Board. He had been a member of Rotary, Lions Club and Elks, Lodge 2248. Currently he was a member of the Sons of Italy, Roseville Lodge 1413, the American Legion and the National Rifle Assoc. Al was also recognized by the Roseville Historical Society for his 'significant contributions to the history of the nation, state and Roseville.'
Al will be remembered for his kind heart, his numerous pen pals, sharing special recipes, his humor and his compassion for the less fortunate.
