Corliss "Jean" REECE

REECE, Corliss 'Jean'
Jean passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Feb. 5, 2013. Jean was 77 years young. After a 20+ year battle with COPD, the disease took its final toll when it transitioned into double pneumonia.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bill, and their children, Susan Reece and husband Michael, and Russ Reece and wife Kathy. As a wife, mother, and friend, Jean was a nurturer, always putting others first.

Jean was born on Oct. 16, 1935 in Oakland, CA, but lived her life in Sacramento, CA. She graduated from McClatchy High School and then attended Sacramento Junior College. Jean and Bill were married on April 15 AND April 24, 1955 (great story there!).

Jean helped Bill in the early days of establishing Reece Bookkeeping, which turned into a successful family business that their daughter, Susan, later took over upon Bill's retirement.

Before dealing with the limitations of COPD, Jean was an active volunteer for Kaiser's hospice program back in the program's early days, the Meals On Wheels service, and other charity groups that helped those in need. Jean was an animal lover and generous supporter of the SSPCA and other animal groups. Just weeks prior to her death, she and Bill rescued another small dog, Samantha, who now keeps Bill on his toes. Jean was also a gourmet cook.

Jean's best friends were her fellow COPD members at Kaiser's COPD center where she and 'the gang' exercised to manage the progressive disease and stay strong. Jean considered her COPD partners as family.

Jean elected not to have formal funeral services. She will be cremated. Friends and family will celebrate Jean's life on Feb. 23 at their Sacramento home. For details, please contact a family member. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SSPCA or .
