George BRUNO



BRUNO, George
George was born in Chicago on June 11, 1924 and passed away in Sacramento on April 20. 2014. His family moved to California in 1939 and he went to Manteca High School. He was a talented musician found his passion for music as a teenager playing clarinet and saxophone.

He served in World War II in the U.S Army. After the war he earned his Masters degree in teaching at University of Pacific and retired after 30 years of teaching in Sacramento.

He formed his own 15 piece band in the 1970's and was still going in 2011. His band was featured on KXOA's popular 'Music of your Life' Dance Series, and he led the orchestra for headliners at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee for more than 25 years. His band was also a part of the California Big Bands Preservation Society.

He is survived by his wife, Lupe, his children, Linda (Victor) Sanchez and Ron Bruno, and much loved grandson, Victor, Jr. He is also survived by his sister Carole Doke of Chicago, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will greatly miss his easy-going and pleasant nature.
