Gerald J. 'Jerry' Burke Jr, 89 of El Dorado Hills, California, passed away peacefully, June 24, 2014 at his home with loved ones at his side.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, June 29 at Green Valley Mortuary at 3004 Alexandrite Drive in Rescue, CA 95762, located at Green Valley and Bass Lake Roads. Visitation is at 10:00 am, services at 11:00am. Memorials/ Donations may be made to Snowline Hospice in Placerville. Jerry was born May 23, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Gerald and Margaret (Witt) Burke. He graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago and attended the University of Berkeley, where he studied criminology. Jerry volunteered for the US Navy
in 1944, serving as Lieutenant J.G. Jerry was a successful real estate broker. He made significant investments in the community and is best known for building 'Burke Junction' in Cameron Park. He enjoyed his work immensely and enjoyed mentoring those around him. Jerry was also a Master Tap Instructor and was passionate about teaching tap to young people. He was most proud of his protege and prized student, Luke Hawkins from the Hawkins School of Dance. He also enjoyed tapping, dancing, listening to music and spending time with friends and family.
Jerry is survived by his devoted, loving wife Dorothy and her three children Christy (Gordon) McCarthy-Rathwell, Sean (Suzanne) McCarthy, PJ ( Kerry) McCarthy, his daughter Karen Burke, brother Donny (Roz) Burke, sister Margaret (Hank) Kelso, nieces and nephews; Donny (Bride) Burke Jr, Jerry (Mary-deceased) Burke, Colleen Burke, Daryl (Kim) Burke, Roz (Michael) Berry, Susan (Greg) Griffin, James Kelso and many grand nieces and nephews, extended grandchildren, family and friends. Jerry was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to all.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Adonna, O'Neal, Diane, Jake, and all of those at Snowline Hospice, especially Chris, Craig and Beca for their loving care and support. Also thank you to Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery for all of the arrangements.
