Henry TEICHERT


TEICHERT, Henry
96, of Sacramento, California passed away in Sacramento on 10/15/2013. He was born in Sacramento on September 6, 1917, the son of Adolph Jr. and Augusta Quass Teichert. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1939, and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps when World War 2 began. He spent five years in the service, serving in both China and India. He returned and, in 1947, married his childhood sweetheart Wendy Downey of Sacramento, California. Henry earned his law degree from Boalt Hall in 1949 and was admitted to the bar. He was one of the founding partners of the law firm that became McDonough, Holland, and Allen. Henry was a member of Teichert's board of directors when his father died in 1954. He left the law firm and became general manager of Teichert in 1955. After leading the company for almost 30 years, he retired from the Presidency in 1982 and continued as Chairman of the Board until 1993. In addition to his work at Teichert, Henry was deeply involved in our community throughout his life. He was a founder of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and the Sacramento Urban League, and served as president of the Sacramento Rotary Club and other civic organizations. He served on the board of El Dorado Savings Bank for many years. He has been a member of the vestry at Trinity Cathedral and was a faithful member of a downtown prayer group for over forty years. His hobbies included duck hunting, beekeeping, making olives, woodcarving and home remodeling. He played both the accordion and bagpipes. Henry is survived by three sons, Frederick Teichert (Nancy), Jonathan Teichert (Julie), and Father Isaiah Teichert, OSB, Cam; and two daughters, Rose Grimm (Daniel) and Wendy-Marie Teichert; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Henry's family asked that gifts in his honor go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento (5212 Lemon Hill Ave, Sacto, CA 95824 916-392-1350) or to Rotary Polio Plus (c/o Rotary of Sacramento, 355 Commerce Cir, Sacto, CA 95815 916-929-2992). A viewing will be held from 12:00PM-5:00PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at WF Gormley's Funeral Home (2015 Capitol Ave. in Sacramento). Funeral services will be at 2:00PM on Thursday October 24, 2013 at Trinity Cathedral (2620 Capitol Ave. in Sacramento).
