Herman Becker

Herm Becker, age 86, of Sacramento, passed away on July 3, 2013. He was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon on October 19, 1926, and grew up in Dunsmuir, California. After high school, Herm enlisted in the Army, serving in Japan at the end of World War II. Herm married the love of his life, Mary Alice DeRushia, on January 28, 1950. They settled in Sacramento where they raised their family. Their wonderful 60 year marriage was a testament of their love and commitment until Mary's death in 2010. We know they are so happy to be together again! Herm worked for Golden State & Foremost Dairies, and Crystal Creamery before retiring. Herm was a loving father to Steve (Noni), Beverly, and Mike (Dana), and granddaughter Kelly (Jeremy) Wright. He will be missed by his grandchildren Dennis (Beverly), Joel (Jessica), Stephen, Cody, Kevin, and Allison Becker, and great-grandchildren Trevor Becker, Mia and Royce Wright, and Brodie Becker. Herm is also survived by nieces, Penny (Larry) Melvin and Judy (Joe) Fornero, and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, & grandnephews. An avid sports enthusiast, Herm played baseball, basketball, and football in his younger days. As the years passed, he enjoyed coaching Whitney Little League and watching his children and grandchildren play a variety of sports. Herm also loved cheering for the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. He had a great sense of humor, and could always be counted on to make you smile. Herm was an exemplary family man - loving, loyal, honest, fair, responsible, & understanding. A celebration of Herm's life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, August 8th, at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 4123 Robertson Ave., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Herm's honor to Mercy Hospice at Mercy Foundation, 3400 Data Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.
