JACKMAN Jr., Ivan Bruce
01-02-1946 - 12-28-2012
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother passed peacefully surrounded by family on December 28th, 2012 at the age of 66. A dedicated employee of the State of California for 38 years. Ivan always found time to give of himself to others, as evidenced by his decades of service to The United Way, The Governor's Employee Safety Awards Committee, The Red Cross, and The California Youth Soccer Association.
Away from his work, Ivan was a devoted sports enthusiast, starting a decades-long love for soccer after enrolling his two sons in the Rosemont Youth Soccer League. Never content to simply sit on the sidelines, Ivan did what he normally does: he got involved ... first as a coach and a referee, then rising all the way to the position of Commissioner of District 6 Soccer. In addition to sports, Ivan counted among his passions the family cabin at Wright's Lake, fishing the lakes and streams of the sierras with his family, and woodworking in his tool shop at home. Everyone Ivan encountered became a friend and he developed long lasting relationships during his times working, playing, and volunteering. His list of awards of merit, while long and impressive, was secondary to the lives he enriched through his charity work and his twenty-eight plus years as a safety officer.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Ivan grew up in Clarkston, Washington before serving a four-year stint in the Air Force. After he met his wife, he settled down in Sacramento where he would live out the rest of his amazing life. Ivan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marietta, sons Ken (Cheri) and Philip (Karen), brothers Ken (Jo Ellen), Lon, mother-in-law Mary Alice Bader, and granddaughter Amanda.
To know Ivan was to know love, laughter, friendship, compassion, and goodwill. He will be missed by many but heaven will be a much funnier and safer place by his being there!
A Celebration of Ivan's Life is pending!
