BALLOU, Jeanne Thurlow
Born June 1, 1913, in Norman, Oklahoma, passed away January 9, 2013, in Sacramento California. She was a resident of Sacramento since 1980, having previously lived in Santa Rosa and Sonoma. Jeanne was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and a Founding Member and Past President of the Sonoma County Historical Society. She co-authored 'Wild Oats in Eden' a book about the history of Sonoma County with Harvey Hanson, and authored a booklet entitled 'Visiting Sonoma County.' When she resided in Sonoma she owned and operated the first Plaza Book Store and devoted her efforts to bring classical music artists to Sonoma through the Community Concert Series. She was divorced from Robert A. Miller, now deceased, with whom she had three sons. Later in life, she married Dr. William Ballou, now deceased, enjoying his companionship and that of his family until his death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Alfred A. Thurlow, Sr. and Evelyn Fuller Thurlow, her two brothers Dr. John Thurlow and Dr. Alfred A. Thurlow, Jr., and two of her three sons, Daniel T. Miller and Hugh C. Miller. She is survived by her son Robert B. Miller, daughter-in-law Katherine Susan Miller and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
