GEORGE, Leighton Thomas
Born May 24, 1925 in Orange, NJ and called to rest Feb. 1, 2013 in Orangevale, CA, Eskaton Fountainwood, surrounded by many who loved and cared for him. He is survived by his beloved daughters: Carol Todd of Missoula, MT, Robin George of Folsom, CA, Michelle Pettet of Sacramento, Denise Bini and husband Brad Bini, of Campbell, CA; his previous wife and friend Mary-Anne Thomas; two grandsons who he loved so much, John Todd and Sterling Pettet; siblings Mildred Westervelt and Robert George of Wilmington, NC. Leighton is now with his Beloved wife Jan George, who was lost to us July 27, 2006.
He was a pilot in the Army Aircorp between 1943-1945, when Honorably discharged. He then worked seven years for Sperry Gyrotech in Northern Calif. Air Force bases, instructing pilots on flight equipment. He continued his teaching career with the San Juan Unified School District for 21 years, at Arden School and Kingswood School. He received a Masters Degree at age 52. A memorial service and reception will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2pm at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2140 Mission Ave., Carmichael, CA, where he helped to build the church in the late 1960's. Open to all those whose lives he touched! The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Leighton's name to the Alzheimer's Aid Society or 'Sempervirons.org' to dedicate a tree.
