Marjorie Burnett, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Roseville on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. She was born Marjorie Mays on June 19, 1929. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Burnett; daughter, Nancy Downs (Al) of Fallbrook; daughter Janice Simcoe (Geoff) of Fair Oaks; son Wayne Burnett, Jr. (Deborah) of Elverta; and daughter Peggy Lewis (Tom) of Citrus Heights. She was a loving grandmother to Casey Cheshire (Anthony); Kelly Johns (Brian); Traci Thomas (Steve); Anna Lewis; and Jill Lugo (Steve); and a loving great-grandmother to Desiree', Anthony, Eric, Jaxon, Xavier, Alexander, Noah, Adisyn, Ashley, Aubrey, and Mason. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Gaulin, brothers William Mays and 'Buzz' Mays. Her eldest brother Harold Mays preceded her in death.
Marjorie and Wayne's love story began when they met at the Balboa Pavilion in Newport Beach. They were married on November 16, 1947, which began a life full of adventures together. Marjorie loved the outdoors and decorating their yards with plants and flowers. She nurtured their large summer gardens, sharing vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors. Their life was filled with family camping and water skiing adventures with fun loving friends. During their retirement years, Marjorie and Wayne traveled extensively in their motor home. Marjorie's household was always active and full of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who she welcomed with opened arms. Their lives were enriched and surrounded by lifelong friends.
