Mary Ann Petersen (née Menendez) was born January 9, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri, the eldest child of Benjamin and Jean Menendez. She married her first husband, J. Laurence Broderick, in 1966 and with him had two sons, Patrick and Christopher. In 1970 the family moved to San Jose, California. In 1977, she took a job as a school receptionist, soon moving up to a secretarial position at the Moreland School District office, where she worked until 1983. She accepted a receptionist position at Alliance Credit Union, where, despite lacking a college education, she worked her way up to become the VP of Human Resources, the position she had when she retired in 2009. Mary Ann married her second husband, Peter Petersen, in 1992. They moved to Los Gatos, California, living there until her retirement. Shortly after moving to Folsom, California in 2010, Mary Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer
. Mary Ann enjoyed making crafts, and often used her skill as a craftswoman to make gifts for friends and those less fortunate. She was an active part of her churches, as a member of the council and the choir. She was known for her optimism and her concern for others. She passed away on March 18, 2013 and is survived by her husband Peter, her sons Patrick and Christopher Broderick, her brother Benjamin Menendez and sister Barbara Schulte.
