OKAMURA, Pete Landeros
Pete Landeros Okamura, 80, and new resident of Norfolk, VA, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born and grew up in Mesa, AZ. He graduated from Mesa High School where he learned to love the game of football. Pete is one of Mesa High's ""Star of the Week' football players. He retired from the US Air Force
after 20 years as a SMSGT and then served 22 years with the Social Security Administration in Jonesboro and Blytheville, AR, and Baton Rouge, LA. After this retirement he and his wife, Lydia, lived in Albuquerque, NM with their son, Michael. From 2003 to 2012 they lived in Sacramento, CA with their daughter Sabrina. While in Sacramento he enjoyed helping Sabrina with her flowers in the home garden, the California native plant demonstration garden at the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, and at her vegetable garden at the Woodlake community garden. He enjoyed visits to the UC Davis Raptor Center, bird watching along the Sacramento and American Rivers and working on various home projects with the neighbors on Lightner Court. In September 2012 Pete and Lydia helped Sabrina and her husband Chris relocate to a 25-acre farm in Union, WV. In April 2013 they moved to Norfolk, VA to be closer to their daughters, Teresa and Monique, and their grandchildren. Pete is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia G. Okamura of Norfolk, VA; three daughters, Sabrina E. Okamura-Johnson and husband Chris Johnson of Union, WV, Teresa M. Okamura Jett and husband Page of Norfolk, VA and Monique D. Okamura Gann of Franklin, VA; a son, Michael A. Okamura, an officer of the US State Department Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, and wife Christina; six grand- children, Shane, Derek, Taylor, Sela, Michael and Natalie. His funeral service was April 15th, 2013 at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Norfolk, VA, followed by his burial with full military honors at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
