JAMES, Walter R.
He was a native of Sacramento, born at home, May 11, 1924. He passed away December 30, 2013, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara. He leaves behind his son, Walter Jr. (Judith) and his daughter Colleen Pierce. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew James (Thuy), Christopher James (Mary), Sarah Hall (Bruce), Amber Marsh (Dandridge), Ginger Pierce (Mike) and Douglas Cabrera (Be). He was the proud great-grandfather of 13. He also leaves behind his brother Elden Crews (Luella), sister, Rena Vienna, and brothers Harvey (Mary) and Norman (Marilyn) James. He was preceded in death by his son Michael James.

During World War II, Walter served in The Pacific Theater, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He made his living as a journeyman plasterer for approximately 40 years. He was a resident of Curtis Park for 65 years. He was a Master Mason of the Capitol City Lodge #499. He spent his retirement doing what he could to help other family members, and going to the racetrack until recently. He was much beloved by his many nieces, nephews, siblings, and friends. His easy smile and gentle encouragement will be missed by all.

There will be a viewing on Sunday, January 5 from 12 to 5 PM and a funeral service on Monday, January 6 at 2PM, both, at the East Lawn Chapel at 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento.
