ALVERNAZ, William John
Born December 10, 1922, in Mill Valley, California, to John Nunes Alvernaz and Maria Goulart Alvernaz. Died September 2, 2013.
Married Reva Carman in September, 1948. Bill is survived by son John Alvernaz, Orangevale, California, and daughter Suzanne Marie Alvernaz and grandson John Dean Schultz of Blue Lake, California; sister Alice Amarant, nephews Steve and Leonard Amarant, niece Pamela Sageman (Scott) all of Arcata.
Also, sister-in-law June Hudson (Les), nephews and nieces Les Hudson Jr., Gwen Trappe, Frank Hudson, Don Wymer Jr., Debbie Wymer, Cheri Wymer, Reed and Robert Carman of Sonoma County, and Mathew Wymer and Heather Wymer of Grants Pass.
Preceded in death by parents John and Maria, in-laws Sherman and Vera Carman, brother-in-law Al Amarant, Dave Carman, Russell Carman, Don Wymer and sister-in-law Ruth Wymer, Sylvia Carman and Reeda Carman.
Bill served as a Gunner's Mate in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard in World War II. He received good conduct and victory medals for action in the European, African, Asiatic and Pacific theaters. He survived the Murmansk Run to Russia.
Bill worked in the logging industry for many years post WWII and retired from P.G. & E. in 1985.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, 1900 Franklin Avenue, Santa Rosa, California.
