William Joseph Holzmer

94, Sacramento, CA passed away and rejoined his beloved wife Joanna on December 8, 2013. Bill was born on September 11, 1919 in Hobart, IN, the 9th of 11 children to Nicholas and Eva Holzmer. Bill enjoyed a full and grateful life. He began college in 1939 at Western Kentucky University where he met his future bride Joanna Ourant. As with so many from his generation, WWII interrupted their lives, and Bill married Joanna in 1945 in Texas and were married 63 years. He graduated with a Business degree from Ohio State University in 1947 and enjoyed a successful career in corporate sales and management. His career required moving his wife and 6 children to TX, LA, TN, and finally CA. Saratoga, CA was home for 36 yrs where Bill was very active at Church of the Ascension, and in the SIRS, bridge, poker, and garden clubs. Bill and Joanna moved to Sacramento in 2007. Bill was a gifted horticulturalist, converting his yard to a mini Garden of Eden blossoming with fruits, vegetables and flowers of every flavor and color, and he loved sharing his plant knowledge and produce. He absolutely cherished time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Bill is remembered by family and friends for his love, wisdom, positive attitude, generous volunteer efforts, integrity, work ethic, listening ear, and his unwavering gratitude and trust in God. He passed on to his children and grandchildren his thirst for knowledge and truth, his green thumb, and steadfast commitment to his Christian faith, family and friends. Surviving are six children, David (Qing) Holzmer, Houston, TX, Mary (Dan) Arnow, Ogden, UT, Mark Holzmer, San Jose, CA, Paul (Debby) Holzmer, Tulsa, OK, Fred (Betty) Holzmer and Robert Holzmer, Sacramento, 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, 8 sisters, wife, and a grandson. In Bill's memory, Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th St, Sacramento on January 10, 2014, at 1:30 PM, followed by Celebration of Life Reception at 3:00 PM at Mercy McMahon Terrace, 3865 J Street, Sacramento.
