Dorothy STOWELL Obituary

STOWELL, Dorothy
Born August 1922 in Arcadia, CA, Dot passed away in Sacramento after a brief bout with pneumonia on March 16, 2010, with her family by her bedside. She will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and to those less fortunate. Dot was proud of her teaching career. She believed in the potential of all children and made a lasting and positive impact on her many students. After retirement, she was active in several organizations that advocated on behalf of the elderly, all the while maintaining a young-at-heart joy in life that was an inspiration to all who met her. Dot is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, James (Jim), her sons Ron and Larry, and her daughters-in-law, Diane and Wendy. Dot was active in the Women's Forum, Allied Arts, Sacramento Emblem Club #539, Tuesday Club, RPEA, CSEA Retirees, and earlier the OWL and Gray Panthers. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to WEAVE: Women Escaping a Violent Environment (916-448-2321 www.weaveinc.org) or Sacramento Children's Home (916-452-3981 www.kidshome.org). A memorial celebration for Dot will be held on Friday March 26th from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Elks Lodge #6 - at 6446 Riverside Boulevard, Sacramento, CA. 95831.

Larry and family,
Sorry to hear of your mother's passing. It is never easy to say goodbye, but the parting is only temporary. May God bless you and your family at this time of sorrow and may your beautiful memories of your mother bring you joy and comfort.

I was sorry to hear about your beloved mother's passing. She sounded like a wonderful teacher and a caring person for others with special needs. We are becoming orphans everyday. I am so fortunate to still have my 85 year old mother that is so full of life. I hug and tell her how much I love her everyday. You were blessed. Love, Becky (Harrison) Batey

I wanted to extend our thanks for celebrating Dorothy's memory and legacy by asking for donations in her memory to be directed to WEAVE. She was clearly an amazing woman who will continue to help others less fortunate.

To The Stowell Family:
I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Stowell's Passing...She was my 7th grade teacher at Our Lady of Grace School, and one of my favorites...She was always up-beat and a truly fun person to be around...I didn't know her as "Dot," only as "Mrs. Stowell." I have often thought of her, and wish i would have found a way to get in touch with her, as i grew older...My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time...Till we meet again Mrs. Stowell...God Bless...

Hi Jim. I am not sure you will remember me. You knew me as Linda Morris and I am now Linda South. We bowled together in the Agriculture bowling league. I am so sorry to hear about Dorothy. Married 61 years. That is wonderful. You will be together again someday. My deepest sympathies.
