Merwin Francis Rose

Passed away peacefully in his home in Elk Grove on October 28, 2011. Merwin was born in Selma, California on December 19, 1927. He graduated from Selma High School and Fresno State College. He met his wife Joan Fossatti in Fresno. After working for the US Army Corps of Engineers, he became a teacher and taught for 30 years at Del Paso Junior High, Sacramento High, Hiram Johnson High, Sacramento City College and Cosumnes River College. In 1959, he started his family surveying business. In 1984 he moved Rose's Engineering, to Elk Grove and worked there until he retired. He became actively involved in the Elk Grove community, especially the rotary, where he served as President. The Merwin F. Rose Park in Laguna was dedicated in his honor. Merwin loved geology and gardening. He had a strong work ethic and always kept busy. He is survived by his 5 children, Richard, Patricia Buchner, Denice Barr, Dennis and David and 7 grandchildren. He was the beloved brother of Arzellene Teixeira, Arlene Wilkinson and Elaine Hofert, and brother-in-law to Genevieve Pierce and Mary Jean Mejia. A memorial service will be held at 1 o'clock on Sun. Nov 6th at Herbergers Elk Grove Funeral Chapel located at 9101 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
