Betty CHAMPAS Obituary

Betty Jane Champas (Buckmaster) 72, born and raised in Sacramento and moved to Auburn in 2010, passed away August 27, 2015 from medical complications. Through determination and a positive demeanor, Betty was able to overcome two different cancers. Betty was adventurous and led an active lifestyle. While the disease later limited her activity, she never complained. Betty loved life and nature, especially Lake Tahoe. She always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. She was talented in music, art, literature, and a taskmaster in the English language. She was an inspiration and role model for many. Betty worked for Buckmaster Business Machines starting in 1980, a company started in 1958 by her late father and mother, Leo and Katherine Buckmaster. She served as the company Secretary/Treasurer up until her passing. Betty led a group of volunteers for the American Cancer Society in Sacramento. She received a district award from the American Cancer Society in 1973 and 1974, presented to her from the late Steve Allen in San Francisco. She was most proud of this award and provided many other deeds for her community over her lifetime. Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Milton. Sons, Mark (Michelle), Chris (Jenise), and grandchildren, Stephanie, Philip, Brittany, Corry and Chloe. Brother-in-law, James Champas (Alberta), nieces Deborah and Pamela. Sister-in-law Sonia and nieces Tonia, Nicolette, and Stephanie. A private family gathering and garden dedication in Betty's honor was held at Lake Tahoe on Betty's Birthday, October 3, 2015.
