Prominent Sacramento Physician, George R. Fricke, M.D. died on Saturday October 20 at the age of 86. Dr. Fricke was born in Chicago on April 26, 1926, where he was raised. Prior to college, Dr. Fricke joined the Navy and was a WWII veteran. He entered College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and obtained his undergraduate degree, met and married his college sweetheart, Nancy Walton Fricke, who he declared was the one great love of his life. While attending William and Mary, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, ODK Leadership and SAE Fraternity; he played tennis for the number one college tennis team in the country. He also played basketball and was admitted to the Hall-of-Fame at the college for being one of the greatest athletes. His photo continues to be displayed in the Athletic Department. Dr. Fricke attended the University of Illinois Medical School where he earned his medical degree as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist (Ob/Gyn). He loved babies and delivered more than 3,000 during his career. The legacy of Dr. Fricke is not only the thousands of patients he treated as an Ob/Gyn, nor was it co-founding Methodist Hospital, as he stated, his greatest accomplishments are his four children and four grandsons. Dr. and Mrs. Fricke's children are George, Jr.(deceased), Sue (Anapolsky), Jane and Janet and four grandsons, Jason, Joshua, Matthew Anapolsky and Stephen Fricke-Carpenter. He loved his son-in-law, Mark Anapolsky as if he were his biological son. Dr. Fricke enjoyed playing golf. He was a charter member of Valley High Country Club and hosted many stag golf tournaments in Pebble Beach at the family's vacation home. He played competitive bridge and was an avid reader. His favorite enjoyment was spending time with his family. After Dr. Fricke retired, he moved from Sacramento to Coronado where he enjoyed 25 years of beautiful weather and ocean breezes. George, Jr. was preceded in death by Dr. Fricke exactly 40 years ago. Dr. Fricke will be deeply missed. His family is comforted to know that he is in heaven with his son. The family knows that they will all be together, again, when God calls them home. The family will have a private service. Remembrances of Dr. Fricke can be donated to the OB/GYN ward of Methodist Hospital.
