Ralph was born in Long Beach, CA. His family moved from Norwalk to the Sacramento area in the 60's. He was an unselfish and welcoming foster brother, to the many children his parents cared for in their home. He graduated from Foothill High School (1970) and studied Recreational Leadership at American River College. Ralph served in the Marine Corps and was proud to be a Marine. He spent most of his career in warehouse management, but really found his niche as a Certified Optician, where he'd been working the past 10 years. His sense of humor, ready smile and calm demeanor were an easy fit and appreciated by patients, as well as, co-workers. Ralph loved to make people laugh and smile so he enjoyed being known as the guy with the cartoon ties. His favorite times were spent with his wife and dogs, driving his jeep on back mountain roads & taking walks. He loved camping and nature, but never lost being in awe of its peace and beauty. Ralph was a kind and good man who was dearly loved and will be missed daily. Unfortunately, Ralph died of complications from the flu, on January 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Artice Westbrook. Survived by his best friend & wife of 32 years, Laurie Thibault, his two sons James Westbrook (Heather Durfee), Paul Westbrook (Angie), nine grandchildren and many cherished family members & friends. I just heard about Ralph passing. I am SO sorry to hear this. I have been going to Dr. Ching's office for many years. He was very helpful, nice and he knew the insurance/eyeglasses business. My thoughts are with all of you!

Ralph and I were friends since high school he will be missed and was always a great neighbor. Laurie I am so sorry for your loss. We will all miss this man and his smile.

We are patients at the optometry office Ralph worked in, and are so sad to hear about his death.
Ralph was always so patient and helpful when it came time for us to select our glasses. He had great suggestions and we trusted his advice. He was always cheerful and had such a wonderful smile.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends. We are so sorry for your loss.

Laurie, I know a lot of what you are going through, I lost my Bob three years ago come March third. My heart goes out to you and the family. Although I didn't know Ralph that well I did know he was a good and kind man. Blessings to you and the family. I will be praying for you. You will make it thru this in time.
