Anna Gorman Obituary
Anna Rose Gorman lived nearly a century - it was a life full of love, family, and friends. She was born Anna Maita in San Francisco on September 29, 1910 to two immigrants from Cefala Diana, Sicily who arrived in the United States in 1901. Anna grew up in San Francisco and married Joseph Massi (son of Palermo, Sicily immigrants) in 1931, and in 1932 they had their daughter Josephine. In 1939, the family moved to Los Angeles where six years later, in 1945, Anna and her family celebrated the end of World War II in the streets of downtown Los Angeles. In 1946 the family moved to Sacramento where Anna and Joe's second child Richard was born. Joe died in 1966 and 11 years later Anna remarried to Army Lt. Col. Thomas Gorman in 1977. She took up golf with Tom and they played every week, even traveling to play in places like Hawaii. Anna continued to golf every week, even after Tom died in 1987, playing the sport until she was about 90 years old. Anna attended weekly mass at All Hallows church for almost 60 years, and danced nearly every week at the Eagles for more than 50 years. Anna loved to knit and bake, and she was well known for her many confections. A gift she shared with her children and grandchildren, passing down her recipes and teaching them how to make the many traditional cookies, cakes, candies, and pastries she made every year at the holidays. Anna passed away on July 16, 2010 just weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She is survived and greatly missed by her two children, her eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. A rosary will be held on Friday, July 30, 7pm at Nicoletti Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Mass will be held on Saturday, July 31, 9am at All Hallows Catholic Church, 5501 14th Avenue, with a grave site service immediately following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 6700 21st Avenue.
