DUFFY, Arlene Florence
Arlene Florence Duffy was born in Quincy Illinois on September 11, 1921, and passed peacefully at home, February 7, 2013.
Arlene grew up in Sacramento California. She was the daughter of Clem and Florence Schmit, sister of Marian Sheppard, Ruth Hughes and Ross Schmit. All whom had preceded her in death.
Arlene served as a military secretary and stenographer, first as a civilian, then as a US Navy WAVE during WWII. As an active community member in Woodland California, her home town of fifty two years, she was a longtime volunteer for March of Dimes and drove the Woodland Care Car with her husband Duff.
Her interests were many, including her bridge group, golf, traveling, needlepoint and painting. She loved writing, and for many years wrote a human interest column for the Daily Democrat.
Most of all though, she was a loving, cherished wife of sixty six years, a beautiful mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, and true friend. Arlene was generous, kind, bright and humorous. She loved us all unconditionally and we will miss her deeply.
Arlene is survived by her beloved husband and best friend in life, Francis 'Duff' Duffy, daughter Patricia (Christopher) Carlson, son Michael (Leann) Duffy, grandchildren Heather and Sean (Shawndra) Duffy, great-grandchildren Levi, Kaylee and Ethan Duffy, and their grandmother Cindy Duffy, niece Linda Sheppard, niece Barbara (George) Sell, nephew Gary (Caroline) Hughes, her devoted care taker Ili Qeleca, and many friends.
