Barbara HORTON Obituary

HORTON, Barbara Ann
March 30, 1951-February 1, 2013

Barbara Ann Horton passed away peacefully in Roseville, California after a heroic battle with cancer.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary; daughters, Kelly McNamara, Samantha (Jordan) Aivaz and Jessica (Michael) Sloan; brothers, Robert (Janice) and Stephen (Sharon) Darling; grandchildren, Kobe, Brittany, Alexandria and Tegan, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Robert Darling.

Barbara's early career was in administration and hotel service management. She enjoyed water skiing at a semi professional level and lived a full and active life. She moved her family from the Bay Area to the Central Valley town of Turlock to give them a taste of the country and 'ride with the cowboys'. As a long time member of the Turlock Horseman's Club she grew her love of horses and greatly enjoyed her ranch. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church of Turlock.

Motivated by her mother's death from breast cancer, Barbara went back to school to become a nurse at Emanual Medical Center of Turlock. She was an active patient advocate for many, a holistic healer and loved to heal and serve. She recently retired to her 'Beverly Hills of the foothills' home in Loomis where, with her husband, she cultivated her gardens and her spirituality.

All who knew her attest she was a gourmet cook, a talented artist, a green thumb gardener, a compassionate neighbor and loyal friend. Her home was always open to those in need. She often counseled at-risk youth and became a second mom to many. She believed in performing a random act of kindness every day. Her sense of humor kept a smile on everyone's face and she truly loved to laugh. Her humanity will be deeply missed by all.

At her request, a private family service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society, American Cancer Society or similar charity of your choice. For comments about her life go to www.heritageoaksmemorialchapel.com

I hope to join Barbara in Heaven someday, because I know she is their now. We were only 2 weeks difference in age, from the same time. I always though of her as a woman with a great outlook in life, that I admired. Those who knew her well were fortunate. I know we all appreciate the wonderful job Gary did in taking care of her in her illness. Gary, thank you for tellin gme about her song. Carl Darling
